Description: Johnie Hankins (1894-1985) relaxing in the sheepherder wagon on the Harvat Ranch, near Livingston, Montana. He worked for the Harvats for 30 years as packer and camp tender, winter herder and helped with lambing. The Harvat Ranch was one of the largest sheep ranching operations in SW Montana with more than 60,000 sheep. The ranch was built about 1917. Vintage 5x7 in. glass plate negative.
