Description: Gustavus Cheyney Doane (1840-1892), 2nd Lieutenant U.S. Army 2nd Cavalry, stationed at Fort Ellis, Montana Territory. One of the Fort Ellis explorers with Nathaniel P. Langford and Henry Washburn, he helped discover the area, which later became Yellowstone National Park. The Washburn, Langford, Doane expedition was in 1870. Vintage 4x6 in. card photograph.
