Description: Portrait of Nelson Story, Sr. (1838-1926), Bozeman, Montana Territory. Known as one of Bozemans richest man, making his fortune in gold in Virginia City. He made a risky cattle drive from Texas to Montana, inspiring the book, "Lonesome Dove." He opened one of Bozemans first banks, owned a flour mill, was a real estate magnate, and donated land to start Montana Agricultural College. With his son, Walter P, they built the Walter P. Story building in Los Angeles, CA in 1908, one of that citys first skyscrapers. Vintage 4.25x6.5 in. Cabinet Card, 4x5 in. copy negative.
