Description: Elers Koch (1881-1954), son of Peter Koch, brother of Stanley Koch. Elers was a U.S. Forester from 1903-1943. He was one of the first foresters in the northwest, responsible for the Lolo Forest around 1910, when the entire northwest region was burning from lightning fires. He was a forester under the supervision of Gifford Pinchot, the first chief of the forest, who helped start the U.S. Forest Service with President Theodore Roosevelt. Vintage 5x7 in. print.
