Description: Edwin Harvat (1894-1970), son of John, Sr. and Elizabeth Harvat, branding the sheep with paint to designate which band the sheep was in. Each brand went to a different summer range. The Harvat Ranch was one of the largest sheep ranching operations in SW Montana with more than 60,000 sheep. The ranch was built about 1917. It was located south of Livingston.
